How online pack opening works
Online pack opening lets you open a pack on your phone or computer and pull a real trading card. Here's how it works on Ripstead, step by step.
1. Pick a pack
Every pack has a price and holds one card:
- Raw packs (from $5) hold one ungraded card, Near Mint when we received it.
- Slab packs (from $25) hold one graded slab from PSA, BGS, CGC or SGC.
There are Pokémon and One Piece packs. See all packs →
2. Check the odds
Each pack draws from its own box of cards, up to 500 of them. The cards are sorted into tiers by value (Common, Uncommon, Rare, Epic, Legendary and Grail), and every pack shows each tier's chance and the average value of a pull before you open it. You can browse every card in every box in the Showroom, and each card's own page shows its exact chance per pack.
3. Choose Normal or High
Normal gives steadier pulls with a higher floor. High adds a lower Common tier and makes Grails about 2.3× more likely on most packs: bigger swings both ways.
4. Rip
When you open a pack, our server picks a tier by its odds using cryptographic randomness, then one card from that tier in the box. The card you pull leaves the box, so nobody else can pull that copy. Boxes are refilled from stock as they empty.
5. Keep, ship or sell back
Every card you pull goes to your vault. From there you can:
- Keep it. Vault values follow the market.
- Have it shipped. A parcel worth $200 or more ships free; below that you pay the actual shipping cost, and you see the quote before you pay. Raw cards ship once you have $25 worth of them. See the Shipping Policy.
- Sell it back for 97% of its listed value, paid in buyback tokens that swap 1:1 for credit to open more packs. Tokens have no cash value.
Where values come from
Every card's listed value comes from recent sales of that exact card, grader and grade, and is reviewed at least monthly. The full details are in the Pack Rules.
Who can play
You must be 18 or older (21 where the law requires it), and Ripstead isn't available where it's prohibited.
